Please take a moment to review our pictures as they show the true condition of this vintage bass. This is a vintage bass and does show signs of its age, including the checked finish, but this has been tested and functions as expected. This bass comes with a period correct Fender chipboard case.

Keeping you in tune are the Fender open gear tuners and the vintage-style stoptail piece, that has two adjustable saddle pieces which allows you to quickly set your intonation and focus on making music instead of staying in tune. We care about the instrument we put into your hands! This process takes over an hour for each instrument - from inspection to pictures. We know that details like wood grain and color finishes can vary, so we want you to be able to see, to the best of our ability, exactly what you will be receiving. I will ship from Bulgaria so there will be no import taxes for EU buyers. Since the bass is not in original condition, but still a sweet player. More hi-res photos of the bass can be found here: If someone would prefer a sound sample, I suppose I can record something next week and post it. Although the pickup is not designed for this string spacing I cannot hear different output level from the inner and outer strings – the sound even. The truss rod works fine, the tuners operate smoothly, the pots are fine. Frets have been professionally dressed and have plenty of life in them, the bass is currently set up with Fender shortscale roundwounds which are a bit loose – if its fit with regular scale strings the strings are tighter and the action can be set to extremely low. Apart from that the bass plays just sweet – I have used it at a couple of gigs and it sure fits in the mix much like a precision. Other than the above the pickguard screws and two of the bridge screws seem not to be original. Otherwise the original lacquer on the body and the neck is in pretty nice shape – usual checking and some small dings shown in the photos. Some previous owner has made some modifications - moved the pickup towards the neck and drilled the body, but has since filled the cavity and sprayed over with similar colour (its all under the pickguard and can be seen in the additional photos in the link bellow). The pickguard is a custom made white pearloid guard – small holes have been prepared for adjusting the pickup height or in case it should be hooked to the pickguard rather than the body wood. Other than that the bass is fitted with Seymour Duncan Basslines Quarterpounder which is screwed directly to the body – not hanging from the pickguard.
1978 fender musicmaster serial number#
The serial number suggests its made in 1978, but since S78 number are used as late as 1981, I cannot be 100% sure and would appreciate an expert opinion based on the photos. It is more reddish (dark red) in person than in the photos. The lacquer is original – wine trans red over ash body. Decided to sell my Musicmaster because I can't get used to the short scale.
